Why this $6,400 Hasselblad is the slowest camera I’ve ever loved

Hasselblad’s latest digital camera, the 907X 50C, is a 740 gram metal box that can serve as a stand alone medium format digital camera or as a digital back for Hasselblad V System cameras made from 1957 onwards. At $6,400 it is the smallest digital medium format body Hasselblad has ever made, but its unique form factor takes time and patience to get used to.

I use the CFV II 50c on my ‘74 Hassy 500 cm along w/A12 (E6) (6x6) and A16 (B&W) (645) film backs. The Hassy color science is the best in my book. I’ve shot Nikon, Canon & Sony too. I use an L-bracket has a grip when shooting 6x6 or horizontals for the A16 and CFVII 50c backs. I can go vertical on them w/ease using the L-bracket.

06:13 now be honest if you thought that left one was Haselb. It is much sharper and clear and I know 50MP is much better but we are all seeing photos on smartphones/tablets/monitors/laptops and that is where that photo one the left (iPhone) will be much better :D not to mention versatility, simplicity, just common sense :D having a device that can do all is such amazing time to live in :D all in your pocket next to your keys....

This is the go-to excuse for the ever shrinking, anachronistic camera communities out there. It's "relaxing". It's about the "experience". They've long surrendered crucial points such as photo quality, focus accuracy, reliability, versatility, and everything else, all of which can lead to irritation more than relaxation. A very niche hobby. Spending minutes at a time trying to get a photo while the camera focus breathes like the wee-wee of an excited dog (that also doubles as a fax machine) while everyone is staring at you takes a certain type of confidence. It being shot at waist level doesn't help.

If you own a Hassi, it's usually not your only camera. I got the sister Hassi X1D (same sensor, same speed, different box) especially BECAUSE it's so slow, BECAUSE it slows me down. Sounds weird. Works like a charm. If I need speed shooting I use my Fujifilm …

I am doing nude art photography. I had a Hasselblad 500C (from 1956) wich I used up until 4 years ago... and it stil works flawlessly... Now I have a "newer" one.... A hasselblad 403 CW from 1991... and yes.. I consider it new (and not only me) :) Of course they are film cammeras, but I would NEVER use a normal digital camera instead.... Having this digital cammera would be a dream... but yeah... price is a pain. But do not wory... even the one from 1956 is stil valued at 1000+ USD... and the 503 one... I guess I could swing it for 2.5k$ ... so yeah... considering all this... the 6.5k is not even that much.... for a Hasselblad :)

If 'bladding, I'd get the X1D ii over this IF you don't have a pelican full of old V system gear that needs a digital bridge. This camera bridges you forward to XCD and back to V System. The colors are traditional HB. HB color is balanced, so pure that there really isn't anything to comment on. likeconcentrate

I learned a really cool trick today wit this - I shoot automotive on an H6D 100c and getting the overhead shots is tricky, even with a WL finder so I tried turning this little baby upside down, flipping out the screen for a downward angle view knowing that I would have to flip it in post - oh no you don't - it corrects the image automatically!!!!! Cool thing

My first view of a Verge review. Well done! Perhaps the best review of this camera I've seen. I've owned the 907x 50C since last summer and you completely nailed its review, at least in practical terms. Two additional points worth noting. First, the X system uses in-lens leaf shutters. That may be a factor for those needing flash sync speed ranges. It's also often a factor for noise, as it's the LENS that makes the shutter noise. That short 45 you're using is nearly silent but its bigger, faster brother is a CLACK! Second, the camera's menu system is implemented entirely on the touch screen, identical to the Hassy X1D2 50c. It's glorious simplicity. If the 907x is a studious turtle (which it is) it's certainly not due to its menu system. Zoom! Thanks!
