OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro review
The OnePlus 9 Pro and OnePlus 9 are here. There's a new screen, faster wireless charging, and big claims about the camera partnership with Hasselblad. Can it all measure up against the Galaxy S21 lineup? In this review, Dieter Bohn and Allison Johnson put each smartphone to the test.

The whole Hasselblad camera is a gimmick, I think that the price is way high then it should be
William Su21 day ago
No especially since the Vivo X60 Pro Plus is even cheaper and does everything better~

Oneplus 9 pro seems a much better value for money smartphone as compared to Samsung S21 Ultra.Oneplus 9 pro camera looks decent enough plus you still don't have to spend $1000+ like in the case of Samsung S21 Ultra or iPhone Pro max.

The oneplus 9 has allot more screen on time than the pro, and will only get better

The non Telekom phones might not have an ip86 rating, but they are the exacty same. A rating costs, so it might've just come down to what they would've paid more in the end.

The yearly advancements in smart phones is amazing. But I'm always grinding my teeth at what the manufactures miss. I am referring to features that could of (and should of) been many added years ago: #1: Put cameras at each end of the phone to take 3D stereoscopic photos. #2: Allow easy removal of all bloatware. #3: Multiple phone numbers 'with a standardized software interface' via dual-SIMs, eSIMs & SIP. ...I am sure many are yelling "these have already been added!!!" Hmm yes; but... ...dual-SIMs are nearly non-existent in USA, and I am also referring dual-active-SIMs support. ...SIP protocol was added early in Android OS; but buggy. Since then it was hidden, rather than fixed. ...also SIP needed it own dialer app; rather than a clean integration with the phone. #4: Allow root access. Lack of root access has led to 'rooting'; which is a far worse animal! ...obviously manufacturers and carriers do not this, do to either warranty or customer support concerns. ...but rather than encrypting the flash drive and disable writing the bootloader; ...I would have preferred a button-combo to restore the bootloader from ROM; which would then allow restoring the factory OS. ...(P.S. I would fine with signing away warranty and support in exchange for a 'root' password) (I'll shut up now)

I've watched several reviews of this phone and I have to say that the camera is just not good. When I see the comparisons, there is some weird processing going on with the OnePlus that I really don't like. Seems like they did too much. Sometimes less is more. I feel like OnePlus' move to market this as the amazing camera phone will just boost Samsung's sales when people realize that S21 Ultra is even better than this.
Kartik Peddinti13 days ago
No OIS? How is it gonna do good low light photos. Such an expensive phone should include” basic features” expected at that “price point”.
Stiggu LePetit13 days ago
Thats why i switched after 10 years of android to the iphone. For that price, you just get more with an iphone.
Pedro Araújo14 days ago
Hey men, cool video. Can you tell us how OP9 is on Instagram photos or video? Is still a bad camera on instagram? The old ones were lake shake camera, that "android" way.
Oscar Castro14 days ago
Oneplus 8 Pro for $699 and OP8 for $499 on the oneplus website seem like a much better deal. OP8 Pro can hold its own against the OP9 Pro

buy an oneplus phone at $729 with plastic frame and no 5g rather than spending 200 more for a much much better future proofing seems sensible to you??
Shivam Vashisht16 days ago
Honestly some members of the verge team, like here, are better than the top tier techtubers. Kinda sad they got much fewer views.
Vadiraj Joshi16 days ago
Did I hear that OnePlus 9 doesn't have OIS? Honestly, that's a deal breaker. OnePlus 7t is their last no gimmick, great value smartphone.
Dante integra16 days ago
Wtf are they doing 😆 700€ phone with no ois 💩💩😆 You can get pixel 4a 5g for 450$ with better camera in every possible way

Why no OIS in regular 9? It’s there in even midrange phones.

So interesting... never heard about hassleblad. 🤷♂️ and yet, suddenly all reviewers are saying how big this camera brand is 😄
maxroman201016 days ago
@Vadiraj Joshi yep. And what I’m saying is “no one ever mentioned them anywhere, and now this name is suddenly appearing everywhere and all reviewers and people suddenly know how great the brand is”. 😒 nvm. I feel like a parrot repeating the same thing again and again... A Lamborghini is an ultra high end car brand. Is there anyone who doesn’t know the name..? I haven’t met them. And, I, as a tech enthusiast (including photography) hear hassleblad for the first time. That’s why I’m surprised that everyone suddenly starts saying how amazing of a Brand they are.
Vadiraj Joshi16 days ago
They're ultra high end brand.

OnePlus 9 has no OIS, Uses Poly-Carbonate frame. OIS is a deal breaker for me

Strange feature to omit. There is literally no point picking OnePlus 9 over samsung s20fe or even OnePlus previous years offerings.

What exactly did Hasselblad do here? It seems all they did was send OnePlus an email saying “turn down the colours a bit and make the shutter button orange”.

I'm in the same boat with my OnePlus 3. I will never give so much money for a phone like OP9 and Pro. Time to buy from previous/used models from the market. Crazy world, crazy prices, 0 innovation, overhyped cameras - i was a big fan of OP, but i'm finished with this brand.
Clint Lewis19 days ago
One thing that frustrates me about phone reviews, very few talk about the most important aspect. That's connectivity or rather the antenna. What really made OnePlus popular was the dual antenna which allowed for better connectivity and better speeds by taking advantage of how cell towers actually work. Unfortunately, since the OnePlus 6, that is never really talked about anymore, can't seem to find out if OnePlus still uses a dual antenna anymore. Can't find much on Google about it or in the phone specs. The OnePlus 6 antenna was it's big selling point, which the company promoted hard as the thing that set it apart from other devices, but it hasn't been mentioned in their promos for later devices.
A Ab19 days ago
In US limited, elsewhere still limited. It isn't easy to find these phones and prices aren't good either. So it's just good for watching review, I guess. If for this price, as an Android user I would still go for an iphone🙄 But just to keep competition in order to get another phone for a better deal, this brand should still be alive.

I have been an avid fan of One Plus phones and have been since the One Plus 3. I currently have a One Plus 6T. I just purchased a One Plus 9 and am very excited to receive it. I even got my friend hooked as she doesn't care about all the features so I purchase her a One Plus Nord N100 phone. The phones are solid, and is the only phones I will ever buy.

Both phones look great. Thanks for the review. 5G not working on ATT isn't a deal breaker since some areas are getting 5G at slower speeds than 4G. Go figure. 50W wireless charging, dual sim etc...very nice! I'll have to do some comparing with the top Xiaomi phones.

One plus phones has always been about "value for money" kinda deal rivaling flagships in a very cheap price. They seem to be moving away from that. If we want to buy phone with flagship-money, we all know we have better options than OnePlus.

The One+ 9Pro is a very good phone, but not in the same league as the Samsung Galaxy S 21Ultra. Maybe, one day ,one + will take the crown away from Samsung but that time hasn't come yet.

maheshprabhakaranphotography22 days ago
It is a good phone as usual but when people stress on the point that it has "Focus peaking feature" - wait what ?? Have you guys used Xiaomi Mi A1 from 2017?? 🙄
Stefan22 days ago
I actually think the 9 and 9pro difference justified by their price. Unlike the Samsung S21 series, which obviously target to drive all customers to buy the S21 Ultra. For that reason, it comes out with players like 1plus to make flagship phones targeted to steal the S21 and S21+ price range market.
Mr Babangoh's Service Charge Collector22 days ago
It's time to jump into oneplus ownership. I've enjoyed iPhones for the last 3 years and now it's time to return to android. Never getting a Samsung again after how bad the Note 8 was.
Jeff Finchum22 days ago
And I'm sorry $729 with the top of the line processor is not a mid-range phone that told me everything I needed to know right there these people obviously have no clue what they're talking about I won't be watching them or reading what they write anymore cuz they obviously cannot be trusted
Jeff Finchum22 days ago
I'm sorry but these cameras are just as good if not better in many scenarios then either the s21 Ultra and especially the iPhone 12 Pro Max the only area I would have given the iPhone and edge was in video before now that is even doubtful and the iPhone sticks more to the natural colors but with the hasselblad color tuning the one plus pro even matches or exceeds that now and most of these reviewers including XDA who's way much more experienced and thorough have praised this phone as being fantastic and by far the best phone one plus has ever made so the reviewers that are saying otherwise and a lot of these aspects are just let's be honest here just completely uneducated or biased or both
Dante integra16 days ago
😆😆 dude iPhone video is much better than OnePlus.
Владимир Бязров22 days ago
Actually, where I live I see S21 Ultra for the same price and cheaper than OP9 Pro. iPhone 12 Pro Max is the same or little bit more expensive. Bottom line: OnePlus is screwed itself again. The last good phone they made was OP6.
JRAF 122 days ago
What I find interesting is that Samsung people (no shade to those people btw) always love to say how greedy Apple is for the prices they come up with. But then at the same time Samsung blatantly puts ads on their $2000 cutting edge phones. If that's not the definition of greedy then I don't what is.
JDL22 days ago
These two sound like CNN hosts. Biased opinions. One of the worst reviews on the planet.
Evan Nakagawa22 days ago
I love my iPhone, but if I were to go Android, it would definitely be this phone over an S21. Couldn't say that 2/3 years ago. Only downside compared to an S21/+/Ultra is the telephoto.
Trent Reese22 days ago
i switched from ios to the Galaxy S9+ and have been really happy with the android experience, but spent way too much time trying to customize OneUI to look more like stock. With Nova launcher you can get it pretty good, but i really like the idea of going to oxygen OS. While this phone seems a tad underwhelming, it's a great screen, competitive camera, and better OS than Samsung has to offer. What else is there to even consider? I'd kind of like to mess with a Redmi Note Pro and see if it's really that much worse in quality at this point.
